Laser Dentistry

Soft tissue lasers are used in a number of our procedures that will improve your teeth, gums, and overall oral well-being. Dr. Kooner is certified and trained with the Picasso Dental Laser, which is specifically designed to replace the scalpel. It reduces trauma and post-op pain by coagulating the bleeding as it cuts, which prevents unnecessary damage to surrounding tissue.

The Picasso Dental Laser also eliminates the need for incisions or stitching during treatments such as gum contouring or elimination of canker sores. The high-energy beam also disinfects the tissue as it goes, and controls the bleeding which helps to minimize the trauma and reduce healing time.

The Picasso Dental Laser is used in the following procedures:

  • Gum contouring and shaping

  • Frenectomies

  • Removal of small growths on the gums and lips

  • Elimination of cold sores and canker sores

  • Periodontal therapy

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a good option for teeth with stains that cannot be removed by bleaching, and veneers or crowns are not needed. We provide bonding, which is an affordable form of cosmetic dentistry that can quickly repair flaws or injuries such as:

  • Gaps in teeth

  • Spots or stains

  • Chipped teeth

Dental bonding allows us to sculpt individual teeth without needing to remove any of the structure of the tooth. It bonds a composite material that looks, acts, and feels like tooth enamel to the existing tooth. Anesthetic is usually not needed for this procedure – it is relatively quick to apply and gives an immediate result.

Teeth Whitening

Achieve your brightest smile – we offer take-home teeth whitening services to ensure your teeth look their best. Take-home whitening offers an alternative to in-office treatment and can be performed at home. These take-home kits are a good option for many patients as they offer a gentler treatment relative to in-office laser whitening.

When you book an appointment for teeth whitening, our dentist will take an impression of your teeth. They will then use those impressions to create a custom tray that is tailored to you. You will receive whitening trays and a bleaching tray, along with clear instructions on how to use them.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are fixed onto your teeth to enhance their appearance. They can also protect the teeth. They allow you to achieve a dramatic smile makeover without highly invasive treatments, with durable and long-lasting results. Veneers typically require 2-3 appointments.

White Fillings

Health Risks of Mercury Tooth Fillings

Amalgam fillings and white fillings are both viable options, but amalgam fillings do come with some concerns. One of these is that the mercury tooth fillings expand and contract with temperature fluctuations, which can eventually weaken your teeth and cause them to break or decay.

Mercury tooth fillings also require removing parts of your teeth via drilling into the soft dentin to insert the filling. This can also damage the surrounding structure of the tooth and eventually may require a crown or a root canal.

Mercury fillings also may release poisonous mercury vapour. There is no such thing as a safe level of mercury.

Many people who have mercury tooth fillings are having them replaced due to the damage they can do to the structure of the teeth and the health concerns.

Benefits of Tooth-Colour Fillings/White Fillings

White fillings provide an excellent alternative to mercury fillings. They are made from composite materials or resin. White fillings bond to your teeth and can even strengthen them.

Tooth-coloured fillings are made to resemble your natural tooth colour and are far less noticeable than mercury fillings. They are much less sensitive to hot or cold temperatures than mercury fillings and require removing less of the natural tooth to apply.
